Leave Application

Attention: All applicants .

The U.S. Army Welfare Department has established new procedures for expatriates in war zones requesting a Work Leave. Loved ones, friends, or relatives may apply on behalf of an expatriate/soldier for the following reasons:

    TYPES OF LEAVE
  • Ordinary Leave (Chargeable): Granted for personal reasons such as rest, recreation, or visiting family. Soldiers accrue 2.5 days per month, totaling 30 days per year.
  • Emergency Leave (Chargeable): Authorized for urgent family emergencies, such as the death or serious illness of a close family member. This leave is typically expedited and may be supported by Red Cross verification.
    • i.) Health Leave (Chargeable): Granted when a soldier is not in good health and needs to return home for proper medical treatment, as requested by a loved one, friend, or relative.
    • ii.) Marital Leave (Chargeable): Allows a soldier to return from a war zone to meet their fiancée for marriage purposes.
  • Convalescent Leave (Non-Chargeable): Granted to soldiers recovering from injury, illness, or surgery. This leave must be prescribed by a military healthcare provider and does not reduce their earned leave balance.
  • Transition (Terminal) Leave (Chargeable): Taken before separation or retirement from active duty. Soldiers may use accrued leave while still receiving military pay and benefits.
  • Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) (Non-Chargeable): Authorized for relocation activities (e.g., house-hunting after a Permanent Change of Station or during pre-retirement). No travel reimbursement is provided, but the time off does not reduce the leave balance.
  • Special Leave Accrual (SLA) (Chargeable, but extended accrual limit): Allows soldiers deployed in hostile or demanding environments to carry forward more than the usual 60-day cap on leave — up to 120 days in qualifying circumstances. The leave itself is chargeable, but the accrual limit is extended due to operational demands.

💵 Important Notice

To process the leave request, the applicant (loved one/friend/relative) is required to remit a refundable fee, which may be a percentage of the soldier's allowance. This fee also supports the welfare of other soldiers who will replace the individual on duty and continue to serve our beloved country.
